April 2022
Greetings, Thank you to all who participated in the March 19th Planning Meeting. Wing Coordinators came through with a wonderful list of events which are now listed on the AHC-New England website www.ahca-newengland.org . Check out the events and I am sure you will agree there will be plenty to do this driving season. Jud Perkins has agreed to provide global management and support for our event schedule.
I suggest you pick out a few events and get them into your calendar. Wing coordinators will be issuing periodic updates with information you need to know to get the most out of each event. It’s a good idea to reach out to the wing coordinator or event sponsor to let them know you are planning to attend. This information is important for planning and in many cases advanced reservations.
Jane and I will be hosting a one or two night tour to historic Sandwich, MA on Cape Cod in May. See event schedule on our club website for date. As Patty Page said “if you are fond of sand dunes and salty air…. you’re sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod.” Sandwich is the oldest town on the cape. It has a delightful downtown Historic District with quaint shops and restaurants in addition to many nearby museums and attractions. Google “Ten best things to do in Sandwich” and see for yourself. Two places that I will be visiting include the Cape Cod Canal Visitors Center www.capecodmuseumtrail.com and Heritage Museums and Gardens www.heritagemuseumsandgardens.org. Jane and I will be staying at Sandwich Lodge and Resort, a short distance from the Sagamore Bridge, downtown Sandwich and within eyesight of the canal. The lodge rooms are clean, comfortable and reasonably priced around $100/night plus tax. Call: 800.282.5353 for reservations. There is room to socialize and an indoor pool at the Lodge. Sandwich Lodge is next door to a new local tavern/grill for those who appreciate being able to walk to lunch or dinner. We will schedule a driving tour along historic Route 6A as well. Please let me know as soon as possible of you are interested in joining us on the cape and make your overnight reservations directly with the Sandwich Lodge and Resort.
Again, please check out the club website for a complete list of events and reach out to Wing Coordinators and event hosts to let them know if you plan to attend. I have a link to the AHCA New England website on my computer desktop which I check often. Lots of other information there as well. A special thank you to Peter Sturtevant and Rich Ray for keeping us informed. Now that the salt has nearly washed off the roads it would be a good time to fire up your Healey.
Look forward to seeing you on the road.

AHC NE Charity Drive
I propose a President's Challenge to AHC NE members as follows: The Austin Healey Club of New England has chosen to direct our 2022 charitable donations to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Ellison 4, Massachusetts General Hospital. Members who attended the Annual Meeting Zoom call heard first hand from our member and front line worker Sharon Brackett about the intense pressure nurses have endured during the Covid pandemic. Often working multiple shifts, foregoing food, family and personal well-being nurses sacrificed much for the common good. Your contribution will be used to purchase basic creature comforts including but not limited to face lotions, and healthy snacks. Rick Neville will be coordinating delivery of care packages as funds permit. Personally, I have donated what I would have spent on a good meal out with my bride had I dared venture out. I challenge every AHC NE member to consider doing the same. We owe a debt of gratitude to our front line workers. Members came through by making face coverings when shortages existed. Now that the current phase of the pandemic appears to be winding down, this would be a good time to show appreciation for a job well done. Hopefully we will see Sharon on the road this summer to thank her personally.
