Donna Cunard - Woman's Coordinator
My introduction to Austin Healeys was when my late husband Manny came home with a 1967 3000 BJ8 which he immediately started taking apart piece by piece. Shortly after, we moved from Virginia to Connecticut and then to Massachusetts taking the Healey with us – the body in pieces, a restored engine and various parts in many, many boxes. Having witnessed a few other complete restorations, I had faith that he could and would do the same with this car. Finishing the car was going to be a retirement project but a cancer diagnosis put a damper on these plans. When word of the diagnosis got out, some fellow car enthusiasts volunteered to help put the car back together. Manny was able to drive the car around the block with the just the chassis, temporary seats and much backfiring but what a thrill for him! About this time, we were introduced to Peter Sturtevant from AHCA New England who generously allowed work to continue in his heated garage. He asked other club members to help which they did – wholeheartedly and enthusiastically. Now I’m a proud and grateful member of this wonderful organization driving this beautiful car with a full heart, a big smile and wonderful memories.
